Ponnelle's production very good. Principals very good. Unfortunately, DG-usually an excellent company- did a poor job of specially video transfer; sound is fair.

Absolutely awful, depressing production. Lifeless, devoid of passion. Christoph-Marthaler&Anna-Shopie Mahler should have drank the poisoned potion! One star: vocalizing o.k. although acting is awful

Absolutely outstanding. For the opera buff or neophite this dvd is a joy.
