Add a CommentI was not impressed with this film. The overly long scenes, and the constant yelling/whining from the soldier made me want to stop watching after about half an hour. Although many people want to see the strong woman archetype change the mind of the patriarchal men, I think the director makes it clear that: "law doesn't belong [in the desert]."
By taking a very jaded soldier, and forcing him to work with a very idealistic and determined women out to get people to vote - and you get a movie which exposes voter's indifference, the theatre and the farce of politics (the traffic light is hilarious - traffic circle remake near the Experiemental Farm, anyone?). Sadly you also see the truth of a society where women aren't valued or even, perhaps as it was in Canada in the early 1900s, where they aren't necessarily considered people. Full of quiet moments, and the revelations that come in their own good time.
This was a really good movie, make sure to turn on captions before starting though. It was an inspiring movie as well as very funny at times. The only thing is a lot of scenes at the beginning are unnecessarily long... but they makes up for it after. I recommend this very much.
We have a voting station in our building and the turnout is so low it's madening and shameful. After watching this DVD and seeing how determined, though difficult it was to get people to vote, I want to remind people how lucky we are, regardless of who wins - at least we have our say, safely. Good movie.
